How to Keep Your Windows Looking Perfect

Having dirty windows can have a bigger impact on a room than you might think and can leave it feeling dark and unclean from the insidewhile making your house look uncared for from the outside. Just as making your bed can transform a room from scruffy to smart in seconds, so too can window cleaning transform your whole house.

Of course you can hire others to keep your windows clean and it’s recommended that you do so on a regular basis. However when it’s just a quick ‘going over’ that they require you may be able to make some positive impact on their appearance yourself if you have the right materials and know-how. The trick is to do this as well as using professionals if you want to make your windows look absolutely perfect. So here’s what to do when you do go over them…

Getting Ready

First of all, gather up all the tools and supplies that you’re going to need and keep them to hand. This way you won’t be wandering through the house with dripping wet hands and leaving dirt and soap suds in your wake. Fill a bucket (or saucepan or large bowl) with water and add some detergent – some is specially designed for window cleaning but many products will work. Now get a sponge and a cloth and take your equipment with you to the first window. In this article I will be beginning with inside windows, but there’s really no difference to starting inside or outside so long as you remember to do both and you clean the sponge off in between. Make sure however that you leave enough time to do all the outside windows before it starts getting cold and dark – if it’s winter then start outside.

First of all remove anything that’s in the way of the window. That includes plants and ornaments on the window sill, but also blinds or curtains. You don’t want to knock anything over or get your window covers soapy. In some cases these may be dusty as well in which case they will need to be washed in a machine. Now remove any cobwebs or dirt that is noticeable on the screen. If you do not these will collect in your bucket water and you’ll need to refresh the soap more regularly.

Cleaning the Windows Logically

Next soak the sponge and begin cleaning the frames (do these first as otherwise the dirty water will run down onto the glass after you’ve cleaned it). Once this is done you can move onto the windows themselves. Start in either the upper left or upper right corner of the pane and drag the sponge directly down (this prevents the soapy water dripping down and leaving marks). Next use a chamois or dryer rag to remove any dregs of water and give the window that sparkle you were looking for and don’t forget to clean the frames too.

Now you’ll be ready to move on to the next window – remember though first to empty your bucket and fill it with fresh water and soap. If you do not the water will become dirty and you’ll end up making more work for yourself than necessary. Remember once you’ve finished you’ll have to go round and do the outside windows too. This requires the exact same process but for large patio doors and windows near the garden you can use the hose to ‘blast’ off any initial dirt before getting started.

Doors Are Indispensable In Every House And Buildings

Doors are indispensable parts of the house. The main door most especially is highly important since it is the main entrance for the home. It is the point where the wide and busy outside world is estranged from the small and cozy environment of homes. There are various religious and superstitious believes attached with the main doors as this is the point where good fortune enters the house. Some believes like the FengShui have guidelines on where to locate and how to construct them for a good and happy living of the family.

Doors are specifically made as entry way to another space or room. They serve as tool to block this entry for the purpose of isolating one room from the other. As they are important parts of every structure, there are still a lot of factors to be considered when installing one. Size is one of the most important factors to be considered during installation. Sizes can depend on the type of door to be installed and the relative size of the rooms. There are standard sizes too, while there are those that require bigger sizes relative to the size of the entire room.

The general purpose of doors as part of the building must be recognized. This is the main reason why the door is installed in the first place. There are many types and there are specific reasons as to why they are needed to be present. The purpose will determine the kind of material, the size and the location. Main doors for example serve as the main gateway for people entering and going out of the building or house. They must be made up of durable materials made with a certain thickness and with locks and other safety measures to keep strangers from coming in. Some of them have peep holes while some have metal knockers. Some are also made for entry of pets like dogs and cats.

The location is also an important thing to consider. The direction of the swing must be established so as not to block the passageway. The hinged part of the door must be known, whether it is on the left or right side to avoid some objects that might get in the way of the swing of the door. The materials of the door are factors that greatly affect cost, safety and the life of the door. For durable doors that are meant to last for long periods of time, they must be made of good materials. Materials can be wood, both ordinary and hard wood, plastic, glass and metals. Durable materials such as hard wood may cost higher than ordinary materials such as simple planks and plastic, but the durability of these materials are ensured. Main doors must be made up of hard and durable materials to guarantee safety and for aesthetic value as well. These doors have art works in them for added appeal. They are also decorated in such a way that they should be part of the overall design of the house or building. Since they are the main entrance for people coming in, they must look their best for warm welcome.

How to Find Information on Law Firms And Solicitors in The UK

If you are a member of the public looking for information on a solicitors or law firm in the UK what are the best resources to use and which resources can be trusted in terms of reviews and rankings that they give to a law firm.

There are three main legal directories in the UK that have long a distinguished history of rating and reviewing law firms. The three main players are The Legal 500, Chambers and The Lawyer. I will examine each one of these sites in more detail.

The Legal 500

The Legal 500 website and matching printed directory are the flagship products of Legalese Publishing who were formed in 1987. The Legal 500 was the first was the first UK website that provided reviews of large firms and it is currently the largest site of its type.

Legalese was founded by John Pritchard and he still edits and publishes the directory. Although it initial started as a directory of UK legal services the Legal 500 series now covers most regions in the world.

A firms listing in the directory covers areas of specialism and their position in their region or location. The Legal 500 listing also includes information on key individuals and a firm profile. The Legal 500 is seen as the most authoritative of the legal directories in the UK due to the in depth nature of the research it carries out and the length of time it has been established.

The legal 500 can be viewed on the internet, in a hardback book form an as an ebook.

Chambers

Chambers was established in 1990 and currently employs 140 highly qualified full-time researchers who conduct thousands of interviews with lawyers and their clients worldwide. The legal directory covers a wide range of practice areas and locations within the UK and abroad. They also publish the UK Bar Guide for barristers and barrister chambers and a UK Student Guide that looks at law firms from the view point of those what a career in law.

Lawyers and law firms are ranked in Bands from 1-6 and these rankings are based on a number of criteria including technical legal ability, professional conduct and client service.

Chambers and Partners is avalible as a hardback book, via their website and as an e-book.

The Lawyer

The Lawyer is the leading magazine in the UK for solicitors, lawyers and other members of the legal profession. It has first published in 1981 and is owned by Centaur Media who also own Marketing Week and The Creative Review. The magazine and website cover a wide range of legal news stories, briefings and legal jobs. Unlike both The Legal 500 and Chambers the law firm reviews are not the primary function of the lawyer. That is not to say that the reviews do not carry weight and value. The reviews in the lawyer tend to focus on the profit and turnover of the firm with less in depth analysis of the type carried out by The Legal 500 and Chambers. There is a neat little tool that allows you to compare law firm turnovers and plots them against each other on a graph.

There are also a number of other ways to check law firm feedback including checking local forums, Google+ pages, sites such as Trip Advisor and Qype. The issue with these sites is that the information is not always verifiable and the identity of the reviewers cannot be checked.

If you are a member of the public looking for information on a law firm then Chambers and The Legal 500 provide the best information in terms of reputation and areas of expertise. If you are a student thinking about working for a firm then the tools on the lawyer can be useful as well.
